The beginnings (2000 to 2005)

On September 6, 2000 the NFL's 32nd franchise was named the Houston Texans at a downtown rally. Owner Bob McNair unveiled a logo that shows a bull's head split to resemble the Texas flag, with a lone star as the eye. He described the colors as Deep Steel Blue, Battle Red and Liberty White. The uniforms followed a year later. The helmet was white at first and later changed to dark blue. In 2003 the Texans introduced a red alternate jersey with blue trim, worn once a year at home, usually against a division rival.

New combinations (2006 to 2023)

Starting in 2006 the Texans wore all-white for their home opener and began wearing all-blue for home games against the Colts. In 2007 red pants appeared for the first time, giving an all-red look until 2010, and returned in 2023. In October 2008 blue socks went with the blue pants and white jerseys, which became the main road look. In 2016 the team showed a red jersey with blue pants and red socks. In 2017 it debuted a Color Rush uniform that was all blue with minimal white, and in 2022 it began using a red alternate helmet with the red uniform.

The 2024 redesign and the Rivalries jersey

In April 2024 the Texans unveiled redesigned uniforms. The dark blue helmet stayed, the home jersey added the primary crest on the sleeve and new collar stripes, and the white road jersey got blue and red horn stripes on the sleeves. The red alternate was based on the white design, with a red helmet. A new navy alternate with H-Town blue accents came with a navy helmet carrying an H-Star decal. In August 2026 the team unveiled its Rivalries uniform, an all-white set with the "H" logo on the helmet.

Patches and details

The Texans wore a patch for their inaugural season in 2002 and an anniversary patch for their tenth season in 2012. From 2018 to 2019 they wore a memorial patch to honor owner Bob McNair after his death. The team has also paired white socks with its uniforms on selected home and road games since 2021.

Texans helmet history

The Texans helmet was white when the name and logo were unveiled and was later changed to dark blue. In 2022 the team began using a red alternate helmet with the red uniform, and the April 2024 redesign added a navy alternate helmet with an "H-Star" decal in H-Town blue with red trim. In August 2026 the Rivalries jersey added the secondary "H" logo on the helmet. The Battle Red alternate pairs with a red helmet that has blue horn stripes. The Texans helmet, Houston Texans red helmet and football helmet searches lead to these designs.

The Houston Texans have no throwback uniforms because the team began in 2002. The Oilers’ name and colors belong to the Titans. The closest thing to retro is the red alternate.
