What the 1933 throwback is
The 1933 throwback honors the Steelers' first season and the City of Pittsburgh, according to Steelers.com. The team unveiled it in July 2025 and wore it for the first time on October 26, 2025, against the Packers. Linebacker Alex Highsmith called the gold matte helmet "sick." Reaction to the look was mixed.
When the Steelers wear it in 2026
Team president Art Rooney II said in May that the 1933 replica throwbacks and the gold helmets return in 2026 and that the team will wear them for "one of the feature games." The team has not named the game. The Steelers' only primetime home game is Sunday Night Football against Houston on December 6, and they also host Denver on Black Friday, November 27. Both are possibilities, not announcements.
Other Steelers throwbacks
The Steelers have worn several retro looks. The 1962-style throwbacks and gold helmets returned for the team's 75th season in 2007. Horizontally striped 1933/1934 throwbacks ran from 2012 to 2016. Black Steel Curtain-style throwbacks were worn in 2018, according to Wikipedia. The 2025 gold design replaced them in rotation. Browse the Steelers alternate jerseys for the Color Rush edition.
Legends in black and gold
Most throwback buyers pick a legend. Troy Polamalu (No. 43) was the safety who played on the Super Bowl XL team. Ben Roethlisberger (No. 7) was the franchise quarterback. Neither number is officially retired, but the Steelers have not reissued them. See our Steelers jersey numbers guide.
