About the Saints black jersey
Black is the Saints' home color. The 2001 to 2011 home set paired a gold helmet with a black jersey and black pants, and in 2012 the team wore black pants 12 times, according to Wikipedia. Founder John W. Mecom Jr. chose black for his oil business, since "black gold" is a term for oil.
A Saints black jersey is also called a Saints blackout jersey or all black uniform when it is worn with black pants. The gold alternate and the 2025 black and white alternate helmets give the black uniform extra variety.
