The bull and the lone star

The Houston Texans logo is a bull’s head, abstractly split to resemble the flag of Texas, with a lone star for the eye. Owner Bob McNair unveiled it at a downtown rally on September 6, 2000, when the NFL’s 32nd franchise was named the Texans. The five points of the star stand for pride, courage, strength, tradition and independence, and the bull signifies the cattle ranching economy that helped settle the state.

McNair said the name and logo were chosen to embody the pride, strength, independence and achievement of the people of Houston. The colors were Deep Steel Blue, Battle Red and Liberty White. The team revealed its uniforms a year later at another rally.

Helmets and secondary marks

The bull logo sits on a dark blue helmet. Wikipedia says the helmet was white when the name and logo were first shown and was changed to dark blue later. In 2022 the team added a red alternate helmet with the red uniform, and the April 2024 redesign added a navy alternate helmet with an "H-Star" decal in H-Town blue with red trim. In August 2026 the Rivalries jersey added the secondary "H" logo on the helmet.

Why the Texans do not share the Oilers logo

The Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1996 and became the Titans, and the Titans’ owners kept the Oilers name and colors. That is why the Texans logo has no link to Oilers marks. Wikipedia notes that as of the 2026 season the Titans have rebranded to Oilers colors, which has upset some Texans fans.

The name and the patches

Wikipedia says the name "Texans" had been used by several now-defunct football teams before the Houston club chose it. The team has marked milestones with patches. It wore an inaugural-season patch in 2002, an anniversary patch through 2012 to mark ten years, and a memorial patch for Bob McNair from 2018 to 2019. Logos and your jersey

A jersey carries the marks that were current for its style. A throwback listing shows older marks, and a current home or away listing shows the current ones, so check the style name and the product photo before you order.
