Why the Cowboys wear white

The Cowboys began wearing white at home in 1964, a practice general manager Tex Schramm started. The team went 1–6 in playoff games in navy until a 2022 Wild Card win over Tampa Bay, and fans call the navy jerseys the "beat-em blues." Dallas's navy and white pants combination from 2025 shows the team still mixes pieces.

The silver-blue helmet and star

The 1964 redesign gave the Cowboys the silver-blue helmet, the tri-stripe and the star with a white border, a look that has barely changed. The 1960 helmet was white with a blue star. In 1994 the team revived the 1960–63 jerseys for a throwback game, and from 2004 the Classic uniform became a Thanksgiving tradition.

The one-helmet years

In 2013 the NFL's one-helmet rule made the white throwback helmet illegal, so Dallas wore blue jerseys on Thanksgiving in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. The NFL allowed alternate helmets again in 2022, and the Classic returned. In 2026 the Cowboys wear the navy Classic on Thanksgiving.

Notable seasons in navy

The Cowboys have won two playoff games in navy: the 1978 NFC Championship Game over the Rams and the 2022 Wild Card game over Tampa Bay. They wore navy eight times in 2019, the most of any season, and 1972 is the only season since 1964 with no regular-season navy game. In 1976 they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals, who wore white at home.

Color Rush and the modern alternates

The all-white Color Rush debuted on Thanksgiving 2015 against Carolina. In 2022 Dallas paired it with a white helmet. In 2026 the team wears Color Rush three times and navy three times, with white for the other games.
