The Ravens jerseys 2026 guide shows which of these looks the team wears this year.
The first Ravens uniforms (1996 to 2003)
The Ravens began in 1996 after Art Modell moved his franchise from Cleveland to Baltimore, and he later told ESPN that the colors were inspired by the 1995 Northwestern Wildcats. The helmets were black with purple talon stripes. In 1996 the team wore black pants with a single white stripe. In 1997 it moved to white pants with purple and black stripes and a new number font. Since 2002 the Ravens have often worn white at home for a 1 p.m. opener.
The black alternate (2004 to 2023)
In November 2004 the Ravens added black jerseys and black pants for a game against the Browns billed as "Pitch Black" night. Since Coach John Harbaugh arrived in 2008 the team has mixed black jerseys with white pants. Since 2010 the Ravens have worn black at least twice a season. In 2015 gold pants made a one-time appearance and drew an overwhelmingly negative reaction. In 2016 the all-purple Color Rush uniform went with a 28–7 win over the Browns.
Details that changed over time
Small details tell the story as well. The Ravens wore white cleats from 1996 to 2006 and switched to black in 2007, and from the mid-2010s the league let players choose their own. The all-white road combination was worn in Super Bowl XXXV, at the end of the 2000 season, with black socks. From 2021 the team switched to white socks with the all-white look. The Ravens also wore all-purple Color Rush uniforms in 2016 and again for a 40–0 win over the Dolphins the next year, and for Christmas 2016 they wore regular all-white against the Steelers, who wore Color Rush.
Why purple and black
The 1996 colors were purple, black and metallic gold. According to the team's owner at the time, they were inspired by the Northwestern Wildcats' dream season of 1995. The helmets keep the same idea: black shells with purple talon stripes that rise from the facemask to the crown. The 2026 update kept that shell and added gold talon stripes on the Purple Rising helmet.
Modern changes (2024 to today)
In 2024 the Ravens introduced a purple alternate with a metallic purple helmet called Purple Rising. On April 16, 2026 they unveiled The Next Flight, with raven-wing collars, Midnight Purple trim and the new matte-black Darkness helmet. The team says it was the first change to its jerseys and helmets since 2000.

Ravens helmet and logo history
The Ravens helmet has been black with purple talon stripes rising from the facemask to the crown since 1996. In 2024 the team introduced the Purple Rising helmet, a metallic purple shell with gold talon stripes, with the alternate purple uniform. On April 16, 2026 The Next Flight added the Darkness helmet, a matte black shell with black talon stripes and a two-toned front-facing Ravens logo with red eyes, made for the all-black uniform. The Purple Rising helmet now carries the primary Ravens logo so it can pair with more uniforms. The Baltimore Ravens football helmet and new helmet searches lead to these three.
A text-only look at the logo: the raven-wing collar of the 2026 jerseys references feather details from the 1996 logo, and a front-facing logo is used on the Darkness helmet. We found no further logo dates, so we do not guess them. Ravens throwback uniforms are limited because the franchise began in 1996. See the Ravens new uniforms guide. Browse the legends jerseys.
