The Buccaneers jerseys 2026 guide shows which of these looks the team wears this year.
The Creamsicle era (1976 to 1996)
The team chose "Buccaneers" in 1975, and the colors were first proposed as green, orange and white. Green was dropped because it looked too much like Miami's aqua, and red was added as an accent, so the official colors were Florida orange, red and white. Cartoonist Lamar Sparkman designed the winking, dagger-biting pirate logo, which sportswriters nicknamed "Bucco Bruce." The home jersey was orange with white numerals outlined in red, with white pants and striped socks. The jerseys were called Creamsicle after the ice cream. In 1977 the white jerseys swapped to red numbers with orange outlines, and the striped socks were dropped. In 1989, 1990 and 1991 the Bucs wore white at home, in part to help quarterback Vinny Testaverde, who was color blind.
Red and pewter (1997 to today)
The Buccaneers have used red and pewter uniforms with a skull and swords logo since 1997. In 2014 they unveiled new uniforms with reflective outlines on the numbers and a darker pewter helmet. The numbers drew mixed reaction, and some fans compared them to alarm clock digits. The 2020 redesign kept the red and white jerseys and brought back features of the 1997 to 2013 look. In Super Bowl LV Tampa Bay was the designated home team, and chose white jerseys with pewter trousers. The team has won in both red (Super Bowl XXXVII) and white (Super Bowl LV).
Patches, Color Rush and details
The Bucs have worn memorial and anniversary patches over the years. In 1985 they wore a patch for their tenth season, and in 1993 a "Mr C" patch for owner Hugh Culverhouse, who was ill. In 2025 three versions of a 50th-season patch were used: red on the red jerseys, white on the white jerseys, and a white and orange one on the two throwbacks. In 2015 the team added a red Color Rush uniform with pewter numerals. In 2020 it replaced that with an all-pewter Color Rush look, which was last worn in 2023, put on hiatus in 2025 because of the two-alternate limit, and returns for one game in 2026.
Throwbacks and the '76 Uniform
After 1997 the Bucs avoided the old orange. In 2008 the team said it would wear orange throwbacks for one game in 2009, in conjunction with the new Ring of Honor. The uniforms, with color renamed "Orange Glaze," debuted on November 8, 2009 against the Packers, a win for rookie quarterback Josh Freeman in his first start. The throwback went on hiatus after 2012 because of the league's one-helmet rule, and returned in 2023. For the 50th season in 2025 the team added the '76 Uniform in white on white with orange numerals, worn against the Jets and at Seattle. The '76 jerseys return on December 6, 2026.
