Seattle Seahawks logo history by year
The table traces the main logo changes from the first mark to the current one. Dates come from the sources below; where sources disagree we say so.
| Year | Change | Context |
|---|---|---|
| 1976 | First logo: a stylized royal blue and forest green bird head, based on a Kwakwakaʼwakw mask in the Burke Museum | Looks more like an eagle or thunderbird than the osprey the name refers to |
| 1983 | Logo added to the sleeve striping | Chuck Knox became head coach and the uniforms were updated |
| 1994 | Logos changed from screen-printed to sewn on | Production change for the NFL's 75th anniversary, not a redesign |
| 2002 | Logo and wordmark redesigned: an arched eyebrow, forward-facing pupil and new colors | Designed in-house by NFL Properties; wordmark by Mark Verlander; timed with the move to the NFC and a new stadium |
| 2012 | Logo tweaked and colors changed to College Navy, Action Green and Wolf Grey | Nike replaced Reebok as the NFL uniform supplier |
| 2017 | Alternate logo added: the same bird in a forward-facing profile | Same color scheme as the primary logo |
| 2025 | Rivalries helmet shows a white outline logo, with "12 AS ONE" on the back | Helmet treatment, not a new base logo |
The current Seahawks logo
The current Seahawks logo is a stylized bird head in College Navy, Action Green and Wolf Gray. It descends from the 1976 design, but the 2002 redesign sharpened the eye and the 2012 update changed the colors.
We describe the logo in words and use photographs of uniforms and equipment; standalone logo artwork is not reproduced.
Why the Seahawks logo changed
The team has changed the mark mainly when the uniform changed. The big redesigns came in 2002, with the move to a new stadium, and in 2012, when Nike took over the league's uniforms. The commemorative patches in 1985 and 2000 reused the logo without changing it.
Seahawks logo, helmet and jersey today
In the Nike era the logo sits on the helmet and the jersey, and the royal blue throwback brings back the older color look. Browse our Seahawks throwback jerseys, compare legends on the legends page and read the Seahawks uniform history.
A logo is only part of the uniform. For colors see the Seahawks colors guide and for the year-by-year schedule see the Seahawks 2026 uniforms guide.
Primary, alternate and commemorative Seahawks logos
Most Seahawks logo changes were small. The 1985 pants patch and the 2000 chest placement were commemorative, the 1994 switch to sewn-on logos was a production change, and the 2017 profile bird is an alternate. Only 1976, 2002 and 2012 changed the main mark.
| Era | Look | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| 1976–2001 | Royal blue and forest green bird head with a softer eye | Royal blue throwback jerseys |
| 2002–2011 | Redesigned bird with an arched eyebrow, in Seahawks Blue and Navy with lime green | Older fan jerseys and archive photos |
| 2012–present | Same bird in College Navy, Action Green and Wolf Gray | Current home, away and alternate jerseys |
How we built this Seahawks logo timeline
We collected the dates from the sources listed at the bottom, using the team's own pages where they exist and Wikipedia where they do not. Wikipedia is a secondary source, so we flag the entries where it is the only source and where two sources disagree. We left out anything we could not confirm, such as the Broncos' 1960 logo. Standalone logo artwork is not reproduced.
If you spot a date that looks wrong, check the team's own history page first. A logo can change on the helmet in one season and on the jersey in another, so the year here is the first public use, not always the first game.
What a Seahawks logo change means when you buy a jersey
Jerseys follow the logo of their era. A current Nike jersey carries the current mark, a throwback carries an older one, and the product page shows which. If you want an older logo on your jersey, look at the throwback jerseys and compare them with the standard home and away styles in the Seattle Seahawks jerseys range.
Shop the Seahawks look
Nike jerseys carry the logo on the helmet and the chest in different ways, and a throwback or retro style often shows an older mark. Compare Game and Limited in our tier guide, or browse all throwback jerseys for retro and vintage options.
