Where the Rams logo began

The Rams’ trademark began with an idea in the locker room. In 1948 halfback Fred Gehrke, who worked as a commercial artist in the off-season, painted ram horns on the team’s leather helmets. Wikipedia calls it the first helmet emblem in pro football, and the horns have been the club’s trademark since. When the team moved to plastic helmets in 1949, Riddell of Des Plaines, Illinois baked the painted horns into the shell at its factory.

The horns changed shape over the decades. Wider, bolder horns joined at the helmet’s center front and curved around the earhole in 1950, and the design tapered in 1954 and 1955. In 1964 the horns turned white on a blue and white scheme. In 1973 yellow-gold returned, with curling horns that ran from the shoulders onto the sleeves, and the helmet horn became a decal cut in sections to fit the face-mask attachments.

St. Louis and the return to Los Angeles

On April 12, 2000 the St. Louis Rams unveiled new logos, colors and uniforms, including a charging ram head on the sleeves. The helmet stayed essentially the same as in 1948, with a navy field and gold horns. After the franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016, the stadium signage and end-zone logos used a blue and white variation, which led some fans to think gold would be dropped. For 2017 the Rams wore Millennium Blue helmets with white horns and a fan-voted white face mask, in the style of the Fearsome Foursome era.

The 2020 LA logo and the 2026 update

On March 23, 2020 the Rams unveiled a new logo set. The primary logo is a stylized "LA" with a ram’s horn forming and spiraling out of the top of the A, with gradients to show curvature. A secondary ram head combines elements of earlier logos. Wikipedia says the logo was poorly received by most of the fanbase, and the team’s chief operating officer said the aim was to weave the horns and the royal blue and yellow into a modern look. The rebrand was timed to the opening of SoFi Stadium.

On April 16, 2026 the Rams revised the branding again. The primary logo became all yellow without gradients, and the secondary ram head lost its gradients and gained a yellow eye. The team has not given a longer reason that we found, so we do not guess one.

Logos and your jersey

A jersey carries the marks that were current for its style. A throwback listing shows older marks, and a current home or away listing shows the current ones, so check the style name and the product photo before you order.
