Early years: blue, yellow, then green (1933–1995)
The Eagles began in 1933 in light blue and yellow, which were the colors of the Frankford Yellow Jackets, the team that folded in 1931. From 1935 they added green, and for several decades they were Kelly green, silver and white. They won NFL titles in 1948, 1949 and 1960 in those green uniforms.
The helmet gave the team its look. In 1954 the Eagles and the Colts became the second team in the NFL to put a logo on the helmet, silver wings on Kelly green. In 1969 they tried both a green helmet with white wings and a white helmet with green wings, and wore the white one for 1970 to 1973. By 1974 silver wings with a white outline on Kelly green had become the standard for more than 20 years. From 1948 to 1995 the logo was an eagle in flight carrying a football.
The midnight green era (1996 to today)
In 1996 the team replaced Kelly green with a darker midnight green. Silver was largely dropped, the wings turned mostly white, and the eagle logo became a left-facing white eagle head. Few changes followed, mostly in pants and jersey combinations. In 2003 black shadows and silver trim were added to the numbers, and the team introduced a black alternate jersey. Nike took over from Reebok in 2012 and the Eagles moved to its Elite 51 style in 2014. That season they added black pants for an all-black look.
Other modern touches: an all-white road set first appeared in 2017, the Eagles unveiled a black alternate helmet in 2022, and a new wordmark reached the uniforms in 2024.
Special uniforms and throwbacks
The Eagles have used throwbacks for anniversaries. In 2007, for the 75th season, they wore yellow-and-blue jerseys in a 56–21 win over the Lions. In 2010 they wore uniforms like those of the 1960 champions against the Packers. Kelly green stayed off the field for more than a decade after that because of the league's one-helmet rule, which came in 2013 and was lifted before the 2022 season.
In 2023 the Eagles brought back Kelly Green as an alternate, matching the 1980s and 1990s look, with a debut win over the Miami Dolphins. The team says it works with Nike to match the old design. In 2026 the Kelly Green jersey comes out on November 8 and December 24.

Quick answers to common searches
Fans often search for “philadelphia eagles old jerseys”, “philadelphia eagles jersey history” and “original eagles jersey”. The original Eagles jersey was light blue and yellow, worn in 1933 and 1934. The philadelphia eagles jersey history then moves to Kelly green in 1935, midnight green in 1996 and a Nike Kelly Green alternate in 2023.
Eagles helmet and logo through the eras
The Eagles helmet has been the team’s signature. In 1954 the Eagles and the Colts became the second team in the NFL to put a logo on the helmet, silver wings on Kelly green. In 1969 the team wore a green helmet with white wings on the road and a white helmet with green wings at home, and from 1970 to 1973 it wore the white helmet exclusively before returning to green. By 1974 silver wings outlined in white on a Kelly green helmet had become the standard for more than two decades. The 1996 rebrand turned the wings mostly white with silver and black accents. In 2022 the Eagles unveiled a black alternate helmet, and the Kelly Green helmet returned as the alternate in 2023. The NFL’s one-helmet rule, in force from 2013, stopped the Eagles from pairing Kelly Green jerseys with the green helmet until the league lifted it before 2022.
A text-only look at the Eagles logo: the choice of an eagle honored the blue eagle insignia of the New Deal’s National Recovery Administration. From 1948 to 1995 the logo was an eagle in flight carrying a football, with a more stylized look from 1969 to 1972 and the team name added below in 1973. In 1996 the logo became a white eagle head, the only NFL logo that faces left, which makes the right side look like a stylized "E". A more modern wordmark arrived in 2022 and reached the uniforms in 2024.
