The Titans of New York (1960–1962)
The franchise began in 1960 as the Titans of New York, wearing navy blue and gold with no helmet logos. Stripes were added in 1961. After the rename, kelly green and white replaced navy and gold in 1963 and a secondary oval logo debuted.
Green and white eras (1963–2011)
The Jets changed gradually: helmet stripes became two parallel lines in 1964 and 1965, numerals thinned in 1968, and decals were set horizontally in 1972. In 1978 the Jets moved to solid green helmets with a new wordmark and a jet silhouette, simplifying the sleeve stripes and moving numerals to the shoulders. In 1990 they added thin black outlines, black facemasks and green pants. In 1998, under Bill Parcells, they switched from kelly green to hunter green, dropped the black trim and went back to a classic oval logo on white helmets. Reebok's league deal in 2001 made the shoulder stripes near-vertical, and green pants with white stripes arrived in 2002.
Nike, Gotham Green and Legacy (2012 to now)
With Nike's league-wide deal in 2012, the shoulder stripes angled downward and the green looked more muted. The 2019 "Take Flight" redesign brought back green helmets, added black, introduced "Gotham Green" and the first black alternate. A matte-black helmet came in 2022, and a "Legacy White" throwback in 2023. The 2024 Legacy Collection made the 1978–89-style design primary. The "Gotham City Football" Rivalries uniform debuted on December 7, 2025, and a white-shell helmet arrived in 2026. For what to buy today, see New York Jets jerseys 2026.
