New England Patriots · Super Bowl history
  • Record through Super Bowl LX: 6 wins in 12 appearances.
  • Season labels refer to the team’s football season; the Super Bowl is played in the following calendar year.
  • The MVP column names the game award winner, including an opponent when this team lost.
  • Historical jersey colors are recorded separately from the designated home or away team.

Twelve appearances span the red-jersey years, the early Brady championships, a second championship run and the return after the 2025 season. New England's six titles are easier to understand as two groups of three, with the complete appearance table preserving the losses as well as the trophy years.

The Patriots’ first Super Bowl win and the early dynasty

The Patriots’ first Super Bowl win came in XXXVI, a 20–17 victory over the St. Louis Rams for the 2001 season. The game took place in February 2002. Tom Brady was the game MVP, and New England wore navy. Those details distinguish the first title from the team's earlier appearances in XX and XXXI, both of which ended in defeat.

Championships after the 2003 and 2004 seasons followed. New England beat Carolina 32–29 in XXXVIII, then Philadelphia 24–21 in XXXIX. The three wins across four seasons established the first championship stretch. Brady won the Carolina game MVP; Deion Branch earned that award against Philadelphia. A six-title summary that gives Brady every New England MVP would therefore be incorrect.

A second group of three championships

New England Patriots Super Bowl wins resumed with the 2014 season. The Patriots beat Seattle 28–24 in XLIX. Two seasons later they beat Atlanta 34–28 in overtime in LI, recovering from a 28–3 deficit. Both games ended with Brady as MVP, but they should remain separate chapters: a four-point finish against Seattle and an overtime comeback against Atlanta.

The Patriots’ last Super Bowl win is LIII, a 13–3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams for the 2018 season, played in February 2019. Julian Edelman received MVP honors. That title completed the second group of three championships and brought New England's total to six. It was also a different Rams location and uniform era from the first title game against St. Louis.

The losses belong in the full record

The six defeats came in XX, XXXI, XLII, XLVI, LII and LX. New England lost twice to the Giants, once to Chicago, once to Green Bay, once to Philadelphia and once to Seattle. These results explain why the number of appearances is twice the championship total.

The latest appearance was LX after the 2025 season. Seattle won 29–13 in February 2026. This guide records that completed result; it does not count an unfinished 2026 season as another opportunity already won or lost. Keeping that cutoff visible makes a historical page useful even while the next season is being played.

What the Patriots wore: red, navy and white

New England wore red in its first appearance, XX, and white in XXXI. The early championships in XXXVI and XXXVIII came in navy. The other four championship games—XXXIX, XLIX, LI and LIII—were won in white. The table also records white in the LII and LX defeats, so a white jersey is not a shortcut for identifying a winning game.

“Home” and “away” labels describe a style, while the designated home team receives a uniform choice at the Super Bowl. In LX, New England wore an all-white combination against Seattle's College Navy. Earlier white jerseys can have different pants, trim and era details. Compare the whole historical design when a specific championship matters to you.

Choose a championship reference before choosing a jersey

For the early red-era identity, browse Patriots throwback jerseys. For a player-centered collection, browse the legends jerseys and verify the product's team, number and edition. A red throwback can celebrate the franchise without representing any of its six Super Bowl winning uniforms.

A current Nike item, a historical reproduction and a patched commemorative jersey answer different collecting goals. Check the actual product description for construction and included decoration. If the aim is to remember one night, write down the season, Roman numeral and MVP first; that three-part reference prevents an attractive jersey from being assigned to the wrong game.
