Jaguars Super Bowl Wins: History and Closest Runs
Posted by JerseyZenith on Oct 27th 2026
- Super Bowl record: 0 wins, 0 appearances as of October 28, 2026.
- Closest playoff round reached: AFC Championship Game, three times.
- Season and game date differ: the 2017 team's conference final was played in January 2018.
- A division championship does not qualify a team directly for the Super Bowl.
Jacksonville's story includes an early expansion breakthrough, a dominant 1999 season and a narrow defeat in New England. Each deserves its own place in franchise history. Keeping the rounds and dates clear explains what those teams achieved without assigning them a Lombardi Trophy.
Jaguars' closest Super Bowl runs at a glance
| Season | Game date | Opponent | Venue role | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 | January 12, 1997 | New England Patriots | Away | L 6–20 |
| 1999 | January 23, 2000 | Tennessee Titans | Home | L 14–33 |
| 2017 | January 21, 2018 | New England Patriots | Away | L 20–24 |
The table tracks the final hurdle before a Super Bowl berth. It is not a list of Super Bowl games. Because Jacksonville has never reached that game, there is no Jaguars Super Bowl opponent, game jersey or Super Bowl MVP to enter in an appearances table.
How many Super Bowls have the Jacksonville Jaguars won?
The answer to Jacksonville Jaguars Super Bowl wins is zero. Their appearance total is also zero. Those numbers describe different things: some teams have played in the Super Bowl without winning, whereas Jacksonville is still seeking its first trip.
The Hall of Fame records 1995 as Jacksonville's first season. There is no earlier Jaguars NFL or AFL championship era to add to the count. Its franchise grant in November 1993 preceded the start of play; that administrative date is not a championship season.
The cutoff includes the completed 2025 campaign. Jacksonville's January 11, 2026 home playoff game ended in a 27–24 Wild Card loss to Buffalo. That result did not add another conference-final appearance. The 2026 season is still in progress at this article's October cutoff, so it supplies no completed postseason result.
1996: an expansion team reaches the conference final
Only in their second season, the Jaguars finished the regular season 9–7 and won road playoff games at Buffalo and Denver, both 30–27. That put them one victory from a Super Bowl appearance, an unusually fast breakthrough for a new franchise.
New England ended the run with a 20–6 win on January 12, 1997. The season is correctly labeled 1996 even though the conference championship took place in the following calendar year. A reference to the “1997 game” and one to the “1996 run” can therefore describe the same meeting.
This was a conference-final appearance, not an AFC title. The distinction matters when describing a souvenir or a season tribute: “1996 AFC Championship Game” identifies the event without calling Jacksonville the conference champion.
1999: the top seed stops one round short
The 1999 Jaguars went 14–2 in the regular season and won the AFC Central. They defeated Miami 62–7 in the divisional round before hosting Tennessee in the AFC Championship Game on January 23, 2000. The Titans won 33–14.
This run differs from 1996: Jacksonville entered as the conference's top seed and played the decisive game at home. Tennessee nevertheless ended the season. The division title and strong regular-season record remain achievements in their own right; neither changes the Super Bowl totals.
The division name also belongs to its time. The 1999 title was in the AFC Central, while the team's later division championships are in the AFC South. Reading both simply as “championships” can obscure the level of competition being counted.

2017: a four-point loss in New England
Among Jacksonville's three conference-final defeats, the 2017 team's 24–20 loss was the closest final margin. Played on January 21, 2018, it ended a run that had carried the Jaguars back to the threshold of the Super Bowl.
Jacksonville led 20–10 early in the fourth quarter. Tom Brady's two touchdown passes to Danny Amendola brought New England back, with the second giving the Patriots the lead with 2:48 remaining. Blake Bortles and the Jaguars could not turn their next possession into a winning score.
“Closest” here means the smallest final scoring margin among those three AFC Championship Games. It does not imply a guaranteed victory if one play had changed. A four-point loss still sent the opponent to the Super Bowl and left Jacksonville without an appearance.

Jerseys, eras and an accurate season tribute
The team's uniform history distinguishes the original 1995–1997 Prowling Jaguar design from a revised 1998–2008 version. Those eras cover the first two conference-final teams. The 2017 campaign belongs to the later 2013–2017 uniform period. A shared team color alone cannot establish that a retail jersey reproduces a particular playoff uniform.
Start with the Jaguars throwback collection for an older design reference, and compare the legends jersey hub when choosing a player or era. Check the individual listing's design, name and edition. A modern player's name on a throwback style is a present-day tribute rather than evidence that the player appeared on the historical team.
The teal, black and light-colored retail examples accompanying this guide are collection references, not photographs of those conference-final games. A white or dark jersey is not automatically proof of an away or home assignment, either. Choose the season you want to honor, then verify the particular design; the franchise's playoff history does not establish a commemorative patch or a product's availability.
