Texans Super Bowl Wins: History and Deepest Playoff Runs
Posted by JerseyZenith on Oct 28th 2026
- Super Bowl record: 0 wins, 0 appearances through Super Bowl LX.
- First season: 2002; first division title and playoff berth: 2011 season.
- Deepest round: AFC divisional playoffs, seven appearances and seven losses.
- Cutoff includes the January 18, 2026 loss to New England; no ongoing 2026-season outcome is projected.
Houston has repeatedly reached the divisional round, but has yet to clear the next two hurdles that lead to a Super Bowl appearance. Its postseason history belongs to the expansion franchise that began play in 2002. Earlier Houston championships and an older team with the Texans name require separate record books.
Texans' deepest playoff runs at a glance
| Season | Game date | Opponent | Round and venue role | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | January 15, 2012 | Baltimore Ravens | AFC Divisional · Away | L 13–20 |
| 2012 | January 13, 2013 | New England Patriots | AFC Divisional · Away | L 28–41 |
| 2016 | January 14, 2017 | New England Patriots | AFC Divisional · Away | L 16–34 |
| 2019 | January 12, 2020 | Kansas City Chiefs | AFC Divisional · Away | L 31–51 |
| 2023 | January 20, 2024 | Baltimore Ravens | AFC Divisional · Away | L 10–34 |
| 2024 | January 18, 2025 | Kansas City Chiefs | AFC Divisional · Away | L 14–23 |
| 2025 | January 18, 2026 | New England Patriots | AFC Divisional · Away | L 16–28 |
The season column follows the NFL season label, while the game date falls in the next calendar year. Winning one of these games would have earned Houston an AFC Championship Game appearance, not a Super Bowl berth. The conference final is another round beyond the divisional playoffs.
How many Super Bowls have the Houston Texans won?
Houston Texans Super Bowl wins total zero. The franchise has never reached that game or the AFC Championship Game through the completed 2025 campaign. Consequently, there is no Texans Super Bowl MVP, Super Bowl opponent or winning Super Bowl jersey to identify.
This is different from having no postseason success. Houston won its first playoff game against Cincinnati, 31–10, on January 7, 2012. The team had already claimed its first AFC South division championship during the 2011 season. Both milestones belong in franchise history without being counted as a Super Bowl title.
2011 and 2012: the first breakthroughs
The 2011 team advanced to Baltimore after its Wild Card victory. The Ravens won the divisional meeting 20–13 on January 15, 2012. By final scoring margin, that seven-point defeat is the narrowest of Houston's seven losses at this round.
The next season brought another Wild Card win against Cincinnati, this time 19–13. New England then ended the 2012 campaign with a 41–28 victory on January 13, 2013. Reaching the same round in consecutive seasons established a postseason foothold, while still leaving the conference final ahead.
J.J. Watt belongs to the franchise's early playoff era. The photograph below shows him signing autographs in practice clothing; it does not depict the Baltimore or New England playoff games. Practice attire should not be used to identify a postseason uniform.

2016 and 2019: two more divisional exits
Houston returned to New England following the 2016 season and lost 34–16 on January 14, 2017. That is a separate postseason from the January 2013 meeting, despite the same opponent and venue role.
The 2019 team produced a different kind of near miss. In Kansas City on January 12, 2020, Houston opened a 24–0 lead before the Chiefs rallied to win 51–31. The early advantage makes this game memorable, but the final result remains a divisional-round defeat rather than a conference-title appearance.
2023 through 2025: three straight returns
With C.J. Stroud at quarterback, the Texans reached the divisional round in each of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons. Baltimore won the first of those games 34–10 on January 20, 2024. Kansas City won the next 23–14 on January 18, 2025.
New England ended the latest completed run, 28–16, on January 18, 2026. Houston's own season-ending account describes the missed chance to reach its first AFC Championship Game. That confirms the cutoff for the totals here; the 2026 season still in progress adds no completed playoff result.

Why Oilers and Dallas Texans titles are separate
The Houston Texans began play in 2002. The Houston Oilers belonged to a different franchise, which relocated to Tennessee in 1997 and took the Titans name in 1999. The Oilers' AFL championships in 1960 and 1961 are part of that franchise's history, not titles inherited by the modern Texans.
The AFL's Dallas Texans are another separate identity: that club became the Kansas City Chiefs in 1963. Its 1962 AFL championship does not belong to Houston's 2002 expansion team. Sharing a city or nickname across eras does not join franchise records.
For a present-day team reference, compare the Texans home jersey collection with individual product descriptions. The legends jersey hub can help locate an older player era, but a throwback label alone does not transfer an Oilers achievement to the Texans. White and navy retail designs pictured here are not proof of historical home or away assignments, game-worn status or a Super Bowl patch. Houston is still pursuing its first Lombardi Trophy.

Frequently asked questions
When did the Texans win the Super Bowl?
They have not won it. A date for the Texans' last Super Bowl win cannot be given; their Super Bowl appearance total is also zero through the 2025 season.
Have the Texans reached the AFC Championship Game?
No. They have lost all seven divisional-round games listed above, the latest in January 2026.
Which Texans run was closest?
All seven reached the same round. By final margin at that round, the 2011 team's 20–13 loss to Baltimore was the closest.
Do the Oilers' AFL titles count for the Texans?
No. They belong to the Oilers/Titans franchise. Houston's modern Texans started playing in 2002.
