The Packers have formally retired six numbers, and all six honorees are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Their numbers and names are displayed on the north end zone facade at Lambeau Field and in the Lambeau Field Atrium. White is the only Packer whose number was retired after his death. Favre's retirement is the most recent.

Numbers outside the formal retired list

Aaron Rodgers’ 12 is associated with a stated plan for future retirement, rather than a completed ceremony in the sources checked. Paul Hornung’s 5 was the subject of a 1967 retirement announcement but is not among the six displayed retired numbers. No. 1 is not retired: team historian Cliff Christl explained its assignment to Micah Parsons in September 2025, and the Packers roster still lists him at 1 on October 27, 2026. Calling all three numbers “on hold” would therefore be misleading.

Linebackers and defensive linemen wear different ranges than receivers and backs, which is why Parsons' 1 is unusual for a pass rusher. The league has loosened those ranges in recent years. The number rules guide explains what is allowed now.

Famous numbers in Packers history

Favre's 4 is the number most fans look for, and it is retired. Reggie White's 92 is also retired. Jordy Nelson wore 87, which is not retired. Starr's 15 and Nitschke's 66 belong to the Lombardi-era teams. Because the Packers have kept all six retired numbers out of use, a jersey in one of those numbers is a tribute style.

Choosing a listed name and number

Yes, as a fan jersey. A retired number is not worn by a current player. Our Packers jersey collection lists the players on the roster first, and the throwback jerseys suit a legend's number best. For position ranges, see the NFL jersey number rules.

Reading a number correctly

A number tells you the era more than the player. Green Bay has had several players in the same number over the decades, and only the six retired numbers are off limits. When you buy a jersey in a number from the past, match it to a name and a year so you get the player you want. The color of the jersey matters too: the green home, the white away and the throwback each pair differently with an older number.

Which Packers numbers fans buy

Love’s 10 and Parsons’ 1 identify different players, while Favre’s 4 belongs to a retired honoree. Compare the Packers uniform history when choosing an older design, and the 2026 uniforms guide for the team’s current look. Nike’s on-field uniform history does not establish the construction or manufacturer of every retail listing.
