Cowboys Super Bowl Wins: Seasons, Scores and Jerseys
Posted by JerseyZenith on Oct 27th 2026
- Record through Super Bowl LX: 5 wins in 8 appearances.
- Season labels refer to the team’s football season; the Super Bowl is played in the following calendar year.
- The MVP column names the game award winner, including an opponent when this team lost.
- Historical jersey colors are recorded separately from the designated home or away team.
Dallas has two championship eras, three meetings with Pittsburgh and an unusual uniform constant: white in seven of eight appearances. The record also contains an MVP from a losing team and the only shared Super Bowl MVP award. Those exceptions deserve space beside the five trophy seasons.

When did the Cowboys win the Super Bowl?
The Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl wins fall into two groups. Roger Staubach's era produced championships after the 1971 and 1977 seasons. The 1990s team won after 1992, 1993 and 1995. Game dates fall in the following calendar year, so the last of those titles was played in January 1996.
The first title was a 24–3 victory over Miami in VI. Dallas had lost its first appearance, V, to Baltimore 16–13, so the first trip and first win are not the same event. Staubach received the MVP award in VI. The later 27–10 win over Denver in XII added a second championship and an unusual pair of award winners.
Defense and the MVP exceptions
Chuck Howley won the MVP award in V even though Dallas lost. That is a game award attached to a Cowboys performance, not an extra Cowboys championship. A collection organized around MVPs will therefore include a different set of memories from one organized only around victories.
Harvey Martin and Randy White shared the award in XII. Calling only one of them the game's sole MVP leaves out half of that distinction. The defensive recognition also offers a useful counterweight to a history told only through quarterbacks: Dallas's championship identity includes decisive defensive performances as well as celebrated offensive names.
These exceptions are why the appearance table includes every game's MVP, including a winner from the opposing team. “Game MVP” does not mean “best Dallas player in that game.” That consistent label keeps the record clear across victories and defeats.
Pittsburgh and the three-title 1990s run
Dallas lost X and XIII to Pittsburgh, 21–17 and 35–31. The teams met again in XXX, where Dallas won 27–17. The third meeting completed a different chapter from the 1970s rivalry and supplied the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl win. Larry Brown earned the MVP award in that victory.
Before XXX, Dallas beat Buffalo in consecutive Super Bowls. XXVII ended 52–17 for the 1992 season; XXVIII ended 30–13 for 1993. Troy Aikman received the first game's MVP and Emmitt Smith the second. Together with XXX, those results make three titles in four seasons, not three consecutive championship seasons.
What Dallas wore: white is also the home tradition
Dallas wore blue against Baltimore in V, then white in all seven later appearances. White therefore appears in both home-style and road-style contexts. It is misleading to describe every white Cowboys jersey as an away jersey without checking how the team used it.
The Dallas–Pittsburgh games illustrate the issue particularly well: Pittsburgh wore black and Dallas white in all three meetings. The Cowboys' familiar white look did not identify a single outcome, because Dallas lost the first two and won the third. The same color pairing can belong to different eras, scores and championship stories.
For an era-specific comparison, look beyond the base color to the number style, sleeve treatment and construction. Modern Nike products are made for today's retail categories; a familiar white front does not establish that an item duplicates a 1970s or 1990s game jersey.
Build a Cowboys championship collection
Use the main collection for a broad view, then compare the Cowboys away jersey collection by its stated color and edition. The category label should not replace the historical game reference. If you want the look of VI or XXX, use the actual white game jersey as your starting point.
The legends jersey hub is useful for browsing older player identities. Confirm the player and number on each listing and choose whether the goal is everyday wear, an era tribute or a specific championship display. Those goals can overlap, but an included commemorative patch or an exact historical reproduction should be established from the item itself.
