Posted by JerseyZenith on Oct 27th 2026

Dallas Cowboys · Canton membership
  • Cohort: 26 player connections plus 6 organizational members, 32 individuals counted once.
  • Canton membership checked October 27, 2026; table years are official classes, not necessarily ceremony years.
  • Team recognition: Cowboys Ring of Honor; a dash follows the explanation in the article.
  • Franchise jersey numbers identify historical use; early careers may have additional season-specific numbers.

Dallas has long-time Canton stars and brief affiliations with players famous elsewhere. This guide includes both, while making tenure, national induction and Ring of Honor recognition separate fields rather than interchangeable honors.

Which Cowboys Hall of Famers are counted?

The cohort is the 32 named individuals in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Dallas Team Greats list. All 26 player connections appear in the first table, including short stays such as those of Carmichael, Gregg and Jackie Smith. The six organizational members follow separately. This is a broad affiliation count, not a claim that every listed person earned his national reputation mainly as a Cowboy.

Franchise numbers require particular care. Gregg wore Dallas 79 rather than his familiar Packers 75. Larry Allen wore Dallas 73; his later San Francisco 71 must not be imported into the Cowboys row. Deion Sanders’ 21 and Zach Thomas’ 55 belong to their Dallas tenures. The table does not simply attach the most famous number in a multi-team biography to a different franchise.

The early contenders and the later championship core

Lilly, Howley and Renfro connect the Dallas defense to the first Cowboys contenders, while the early receiving stars helped build the offense. These careers helped the team reach and win Super Bowl games across different generations of NFL competition. Staubach, Dorsett, Harris and White belong to overlapping stages of that successful era, while Aikman, Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen and Haley supply central names from the later championship teams.

Owens, Sanders, Ware and several shorter ties show why one national membership list can cover very different Dallas careers. Ware’s Canton biography includes his later Denver achievement, but the Dallas tenure column ends in 2013. No outside championship is silently reassigned to Dallas. The numbers identify historical Cowboys use, rather than a statement about who wears them in the current season.

Cowboys Ring of Honor selection is not Canton election

The final column records Ring of Honor induction where the person appears in the official franchise roll. A dash means no listed Ring entry at the review date. Canton membership neither guarantees nor requires that team distinction. The Ring also includes franchise figures who are not national inductees, so adding the two list sizes would double-count overlapping members and mislabel others.

The Canton class year differs from ceremony timing. Cliff Harris and Jimmy Johnson remain Class of 2020 members despite the delayed 2021 ceremony. Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys Ring of Honor induction was in 2023, a different event. Ware’s team Ring and Canton recognition also require their own fields rather than one undifferentiated “Hall year.”

The Cowboys jersey numbers guide covers the franchise’s number policy and full Ring reference. This membership article does not repeat that retired-or-honored-number discussion as if the Ring were a national Hall.

Throwback jerseys and the legends’ legacy

A Staubach-era reference and an Aikman-era reference tell different Dallas stories even before a product’s details are considered. Compare the Cowboys away collection and the legends collection with the player and period you intend to honor. Membership does not establish that a matching item is currently available.

For a modern Nike jersey, check number, edition and design against the actual listing. A historical name is not a guarantee of exact period construction, and a repeated number can represent several different Cowboys careers.

Frequently asked questions

How many Cowboys Hall of Famers appear in this guide?

There are 32 individuals in the defined Canton team cohort: 26 player connections and six organizational members. The count includes brief documented Dallas tenures as well as long franchise careers.

Is every Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame player in the Ring of Honor?

No. The national Hall and the Cowboys Ring use different selection processes. The table’s separate columns make the overlap visible without treating one as automatic qualification for the other.

Why are multiple number 88 players listed?

Pearson and Irvin both wore 88 in Dallas, among other Cowboys associated with that number. Canton membership belongs to individuals, and a shared jersey number does not merge their careers.

Does an induction remove the number from circulation?

No automatic rule follows from national induction or Ring selection. The linked numbers guide explains Dallas policy separately from this membership reference.
